Philippe Mathieu

Inspiration stems from the twin sources of a family background in farming, in the Rhône Valley, and a deep affinity for French vineyards in particular and wines of the world in general. His projects draw upon 35 years' experience in fine cabinet-making and design flair, also expressed through Philippe Mathieu's idWine line of cellar accessories.

The vision you need is as broad, personal and original as possible, as close as possible to your ideal outcome. It's the same sort of vision you'll have of your vineyards and your wines. That doesn't mean it's unrealistic in any way. The creative component of my work draws from direct contact with the project locations, atmospheres and environments, and above all from the personalities of the vineyard owners and managers. Each new-build or renovation project calls for in-depth examination, and raises its own very individual technological challenges for my team. The initial design stage outputs drawings in 2D and fully-rendered 360° 3D formats, astonishingly real-life in appearance. That's the starting point for my team of expert cabinet-maker technicians.

Here, the design emphasis is on warmth and unpretentious elegance. Forms can be rectilinear or organic, in materials and colours stylistically consistent with the location.
